Well, it's that time of year again...

Every year, Jimmy's birthday comes fast. Then school starts. Once I get into the swing of things again, I start thinking about my then fast-approaching birthday. And I'm always caught off guard by that little February detour... Valentine's Day.

First off, I think this holiday had to be made up by a boat-load of women who just couldn't stand to wait for their birthday or Christmas to roll around again. Seriously, I've watching a lot of guys commiserate over what they're going to do for their significant other on this rather random of holidays. It has always seemed less like an enjoyable experience and more like a sufferable burden, for males at least.

Now, don't get me wrong. It's not that I think women shouldn't be celebrated and cherished. I'm just not sure I agree with the general principle of V-Day.

That brings me to the next point...

I have watched a lot of "men" step all over their girlfriends and treat them like dirt. I have seen those same "men" yell, curse, and be frankly less-than-chivalrous to those same women. These poor women tolerate it. Yet I cannot understand for the life of me why.

Does Valentine's Day really make up for the crap that these girls deal with for the rest of the year? No, it can't. I refuse to believe it.

I submit that Valentine's Day be abolished. Women should be loved and honored everyday. I watch the way my brother stares lovingly at his wife. I watch as he opens every door he can for her. I believe this is how it should be. And I am nearly convinced that there would be no need for Valentine's Day if men quit being such retards and honestly cherished the women they "love."

Well done, Robert, Dad, Davy... And the rest of you men who are true gentlemen. In a few days, I'll be 21 and then, I'll properly raise a glass to you.

hummm. you didn't get a groundswell of female support on this one, or male support.

Dad - I wasn't expecting much of a response. It was an odd topic to write about and more odd to comment on. It wasn't really a rally cry. It was just something I wanted to get off my chest.

I lied. I wasn't not really all that surprised.
