I just read an article in the New York Times.
50 Years Later, Emmett Till's Body Is Exhumed
Fifty years ago, a boy named Emmitt Till was murdered in a brutal act of racism.
"Emmett was soon dragged out of his uncle's house at gunpoint, beaten savagely, shot by a riverbank and dumped in the water, his body weighed down by a cotton gin fan knotted to his neck with barbed wire."
Yet, the men charged with the murder were acquitted because, among other things, "An autopsy was never performed after the murder and one of the defense's arguments at the time was that there was no proof the boy was, in fact, dead."
What's wrong with our justice system? How can someone, at the very least, be dropped into a river with a cotton gin fan tied to his neck actually survive? That's not to mention the fact that it was tied with barbed wire!
Sorry, no punchline here, folks. I just couldn't let this one slide past me.
Lord, please tell me that our current court system doesn't allow this to happen. Please, tell me that there's just a little hope.

There is only as much hope for the justice system as there are good and true men and women to serve as policemen, investigators, detectives, prosecutors, lawyers, witnesses, judges, and jurors. And there is no hope of men and women being good and true apart from Jesus, the Christ, who alone is good and true.
